From exquisite pop music to punkish hip-hop, space travel, and an uncompromising DIY attitude. Here are our picks of the week for your consideration.

❶ DUCKWRTH – Toxic Romantic

Reckoning with his problematic behaviour in relationships, ‌musical chameleon ‌DUCKWRTH released the introspective Toxic Romantic. Hip-hop collides with a brash, almost punkish drive, pushing a dense but melodic tapestry of sound.

❷ Jamila – Linger

Linger by Swiss rising pop artist Jamila upends expectations. Starting as a smooth-voiced ballad, rounded off by jangly guitars, the song seems too cliché. But then, the anticipation builds, erupting into a daring indie-rock bouquet.

❸ Mallrat – Virtue

Almost any track from Mallrat’s new album could be here. But Virtue is one of the best by the Australian; stripped down, minimalistic, but hauntingly beautiful. A ballad that pierces the chest slowly but is deadly nonetheless.

❹ TOI OR – SANS R

Space pop-rock with a hint of jazz and jam: Geneva-based band TOI OR displays excellent virtuosity in their new single, SANS R. Maybe you hear evidence of extraterrestrial life, but certainly you can feel the sand between your toes.

❺ Martyrs – Pin Blue Sometime
